Communal aerial systems still affected by the BBC ‘retune’?

Following the re-allocation of 2 multiplexes  on the Winter Hill and Keighley Transmitters (And their subsequent relay transmitters), a number of properties are still not able to receive the BBC channels on their new frequencies; Why is this?

The huge majority of people that are still having issues receiving the BBC (and other recently re-allocated channels) are connected to ‘distribution systems’ that serve a number of dwellings.

Typically these systems have a ‘head-end’ where all of the signals are processed and amplified before being distributed to the dwellings / outlet points.  In a number of these ‘head-ends’ filter units are utilised that filter out unwanted signals to ensure trouble free distribution without signal corruption or degradation.  These filter units are what is know as channelised (i.e. you program them to only allow the required frequencies through to the amplification stage of the head-end).  If these channels do not correspond to the relevant signals frequencies as is the case with the new BBC frequencies, these are blocked and as a result of this the TV’s are unable to tune to the channels as the effective do not exist on the distribution system.

So….. how can we get around the problem?

To regain the previously filtered channels, the filter unit needs to be removed (in the case of passive non amplified filters), or reprogrammed / replaced (in the case of active filters).  Once this is done all channels are present once again.
